Did you know that more than 20% of the carbon emissions in Staffordshire come from residential homes?
An easy way to reduce your carbon footprint is to make your home greener. This page will give you some ideas and easy projects, from quick swaps to weekend projects.
Tips for a green home
- Turn your thermostat down by 1 degree – This can save around 10% on your energy bill. It’s good for your bank account and Mother Nature.
- Switch to LED Lightbulbs – They use up to 90% less energy than traditional lightbulbs, and they last up to 25x longer.
- Get a smart meter – Monitor the amount of electricity and gas you use and try to reduce it. Your energy company can fit a smart meter.
Get FREE green energy solutions for your home
The Staffordshire Warmer Homes Scheme has helped hundreds of household across the area get FREE green home heating solutions installed in their homes. They install solar panels, home insulation, air source heat pumps and more. The scheme is managed by Staffordshire County Council. See if you are eligible today.
Scan your home to see where heat escapes from
A quick infrared scan of your walls will allow you to see exactly how well your home is insulated. You can see where heat is escaping from and think about what you can do to fix it.
You can collect an infrared camera from one of our Staffordshire Libraries. You can loan the camera and return it once you are finished.
